Floor Finisher

Your days would be spent on carpet and vinyl floors across a real mix of sites around Mackay: family homes, shops, commercial premises and new builds. A flooring installation business in Queensland is expanding and has room for two Floor Layers with solid experience behind them.
The employer wants to see what you have actually done, so a clear record of past installations counts. If you hold a South African trade certificate, keep it with your references from former bosses.
Key Responsibilities
- Measure up each work area accurately, check the plans and work out which flooring materials are needed
- Lift old floor coverings and get subfloors properly prepared
- Lay broadloom carpet, handling underlay, gripper, seams and stretching
- Fit carpet tiles on residential and commercial jobs, as well as luxury vinyl plank
- Cut, fit and finish flooring materials with precision, then add trims, thresholds and edge finishes
- Fix faults and do rectification work when it is needed
- Hold a high standard of workmanship from start to finish on every install
- Keep tools, vehicles and each work area tidy and safe
- Cooperate with customers, builders and the other trades on site
- Work to Australian workplace safety rules and flooring installation requirements
Requirements & Eligibility
- A minimum of 3 years' experience working as a Floor Layer
- Hands-on, demonstrated work with broadloom carpet and/or vinyl plank
- Sound knowledge of subfloor preparation, plus the ability to measure accurately and read plans
- A proven record of finishing flooring installations to a professional standard
- A current driver's licence and a current construction White Card, both held before starting
- Good communication skills and comfort dealing with customers
- Reliable, with the physical capability that flooring work demands
- Able to work on your own or within an installation team
- Highly regarded: commercial sheet vinyl experience including welding, coving and wall vinyl, and advanced floor preparation experience
- Floating floor or engineered timber installation experience is also highly regarded
- Visa sponsorship may be available to suitably skilled overseas applicants whose relevant experience can be verified
