Heavy Road Transport Mechanics

Prime movers that break down cost money every hour they sit still. In this Brisbane workshop, your job is to stop that happening.

The employer is an established and growing transport business in Queensland, with a modern fleet and a workshop built for the purpose. It wants a trade-qualified diesel mechanic who cares about dependable equipment, gets diagnoses right and does repairs properly.

Your work keeps the trucks safe, roadworthy and earning, with as little downtime as possible. Keep your trade test certificate and work references close at hand; your diesel experience back home is worth showing off.

Key Responsibilities

  • Find mechanical faults, work out the best fix and handle breakdown troubleshooting
  • Keep multi-combination rigs and prime movers running, including the Volvo and Mack Titan units
  • Do planned and preventative maintenance across the road fleet
  • Rebuild or replace engines, gearboxes, drivelines and other major components
  • Inspect vehicles and pick up problems before they grow
  • Keep every truck safe and operational, and turn jobs around quickly to cut downtime
  • Fill in service records and maintenance paperwork
  • Handle hand tools and diagnostic gear the right way, without shortcuts
  • Team up with the workshop crew and dispatch staff so vehicles are ready when needed
  • Follow every WHS and environmental rule on site
  • Keep the workshop tidy and safe

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Hold a recognised Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic trade qualification and have a proven record in that role (Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic)
  • Plenty of background maintaining heavy vehicles in road transport
  • Demonstrated hands-on work with heavy multi-combination trucks
  • Time on Volvo and/or Mack Titan prime movers is highly regarded
  • Sharp fault-finding and diagnostic ability
  • Has worked within preventative maintenance programs and done major repairs and component rebuilds
  • A current C Class Australian driver's licence is essential
  • An HR licence is highly regarded
  • Current National Police Clearance, or prepared to get one
  • Comfortable on a structured local roster
  • Safety-minded, detail-focused and dependable on every repair
  • Communicates well and pulls together with the team
  • Open to moving to Western Australia if required
  • Overseas-qualified tradespeople with relevant skills are encouraged to apply; eligible overseas candidates can be sponsored (sponsorship available)
  • Current 482 visa holders may be considered for a sponsorship transfer
