Engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, air-con and wheel alignments: this workshop in Alice Springs, Alice Springs & Central Australia NT sees the lot. An established automotive business wants a qualified Light Vehicle Mechanic who can find faults, service vehicles and complete sound repairs.
The work calls for quality mechanical repairs, accurate diagnosis and high standards of safety, workmanship and customer service. It starts as an initial 6-month contract, with full-time and part-time options, and may become a permanent position depending on performance and business needs. South African mechanics should keep their trade certificate and proof of past work ready to share.
Key Responsibilities
- Test and inspect vehicles to find and confirm faults, checking mechanical and electronic parts for wear or defects
- Repair engines, transmissions, steering and braking systems
- Handle wheel alignments and air-conditioning repairs and servicing
- Do routine services and preventative maintenance to the service specifications
- Assess and repair vehicles that have been in accidents or need restoration
- Check that vehicles are roadworthy, safe and compliant with the relevant state regulations
- Keep detailed records of every inspection, service, repair and maintenance job
- Work with the vehicle operations team so vehicles are ready for customer bookings, and flag the spare parts needed to keep workshop stock at the right level
- Report technical findings, needed repairs and estimated costs to management
- Keep the workshop clean, organised and safe under WorkSafe requirements, and deliver reliable, careful work whether on your own or with the team
Requirements & Eligibility
- A recognised trade qualification in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional work as a Motor Mechanic
- Proven hands-on skill in diagnosing, servicing and repairing vehicles, including inspection of mechanical and electronic systems
- A current driver's licence
- Strong English, both spoken and written
- IELTS Band 6 or above preferred
- Able to explain technical problems, repair options and estimated costs clearly
- Strong analytical, diagnostic, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Well organised and good at managing time
- Close attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship
- Works well alone or as part of a team, and committed to workplace safety and keeping vehicles roadworthy
