Project Manager

Construction · Auckland CBD, Auckland, New Zealand · Full-Time · $25/hr

Live buildings, many contractors and technical work that cannot stop the people using the site. This Auckland CBD opening calls for a Senior Project Manager to take charge of technically demanding work spread over a mixed portfolio of well-known facilities.

You should be able to point to finished building-services, refurbishment, renewal or construction jobs, and show how you balanced the technical side with cost and day-to-day operations. The employer looks at real, checked experience and ability, not at whether your last title lines up with this one.

If you ran building projects in South Africa, list each one with its scope, value and your role so it is quick to verify.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own big physical works on the client's behalf, often juggling several at the same time
  • Work out the scope, people, money, programme and delivery approach for every job
  • Head up the project team and keep consultants, contractors and stakeholders working together, checking their performance as you go
  • Keep cost, time, risk, quality and results under control
  • Run renewal and construction work inside facilities that stay open, so day-to-day use carries on without disruption
  • Weigh up technical and building-services needs, and line up fire, water, structural, mechanical and electrical trades
  • Keep everything compliant with building rules and regulations
  • Look after communication, manage stakeholder expectations and produce reliable progress and financial reporting
  • Keep paperwork and contract obligations in order, and solve technical or delivery hold-ups
  • Pass on what you know and help the team grow

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Senior-level project management in building or construction
  • Demonstrated record of taking complex jobs from the planning stage right through to handover
  • Sound grasp of renewal works and building construction, and technical know-how on critical systems and building services
  • Background managing projects in facilities that are complex or open to the public preferred
  • Familiar with New Zealand building regulations and what compliance needs, and you understand NZS 3910 contracts
  • Good financial and commercial judgement
  • A strong communicator who handles stakeholders well
  • Solves problems and makes decisions well, and stays on top of deadlines and competing demands
  • Tertiary study in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline preferred
