Pub & Restaurant Management Position

The owner of an established Melbourne pub and restaurant wants a right hand who can run the place day to day. That means rosters, stock, staff, service standards and the calls that need making on a packed Saturday.
This is a hands-on management post. You will lead from the floor, coach the team, keep an eye on costs and work with the owner on better ways of doing things, so the venue stays professional and welcoming.
Applicants must be 18 years or older, hold current RSA certification and be able to back up their hospitality history with verifiable evidence. Sponsorship is open to those who meet the applicable requirements. Gather your references from previous venues before you apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Run the pub and restaurant every day and own how it performs
- Direct the team through each service, and step onto the floor to help whenever it is needed
- Draw up rosters and help with payroll admin
- Watch inventory and costs closely, and help with buying and ordering stock
- Coach, encourage and back the hospitality staff, and help with hiring, inductions and ongoing training
- Keep customer service consistently strong
- Hold the venue to a high standard of cleanliness and presentation
- Champion responsible service of alcohol and RSA compliance
- Sit down with the owner to find and roll out operational improvements
- Deal with daily problems and make sure-footed decisions when it is busy
- Help build a workplace that is positive, professional and accountable
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated experience in the hospitality industry, including time in a supervisory or management position
- Proven at leading and managing hospitality staff
- Good with customers and a clear communicator, dealing with guests and staff in a confident, professional way
- Handles busy service periods well
- Well organised and manages time effectively
- Comfortable working alone and taking responsibility for operational decisions
- Current and valid RSA certification
- Must be 18 years or older
- Happy to get hands-on with the running of the venue
- Dependable and committed at work
- Able to get to and from work reliably
- Able to provide verifiable evidence of relevant hospitality experience, and must meet applicable requirements for sponsorship
