Opening teams do not come around often. A brand-new gastropub in Rotorua, in New Zealand's Bay of Plenty, is putting its first crew together and wants three experienced Bartenders who know their way around a busy bar and put customers first.
Real bar time matters more than talk here: you should understand beverage service, pour and mix with confidence, and keep service steady when the venue is packed. Your hands-on knowledge and consistency will be at the heart of the role.
If an English test applies to your visa, IELTS or PTE results are worth sorting out early.
Key Responsibilities
- Make and serve a full range of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, with cocktails built to the venue's recipes and standards
- Pour beer, wine and spirits and talk customers through them with real product knowledge
- Greet and serve guests in a warm, professional way, speaking up confidently and meeting their service needs
- Run the POS system and put every transaction through correctly
- Keep an eye on drink supplies so stock stays organised, and help with ordering, rotation and inventory control
- Hold the bar and service areas to a high standard of cleanliness
- Serve alcohol responsibly and follow the relevant New Zealand regulations
- Handle opening and closing tasks as required
- Help with cash handling and end-of-shift routines
- Back your colleagues up when service gets hectic
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 2 years of professional bartending in a relevant role, with demonstrated hands-on cocktail and beverage service skills
- A working knowledge of beer, wine and spirits
- Able to back up your relevant work history with evidence where required
- Strong at communicating and looking after customers
- Confident in a busy hospitality venue, and brings a reliable, professional attitude
- Free to work evenings, weekends and public holidays
- Applicants must satisfy the New Zealand immigration requirements that apply
- Eligible overseas applicants can be sponsored, subject to job check approval and immigration requirements
- If you are already in New Zealand, a Job Change or Variation of Conditions may be considered where applicable
- Where an English test is required, applicants must meet current Immigration New Zealand requirements or hold an accepted exemption
