Boilermaker

Plate, sections, a welder and a set of drawings: if that is your comfort zone, read on. An established industrial operation in Queensland wants a capable Boilermaker for workshop and remote-site work, based out of Brisbane.
Papers matter, but this employer wants proof of real hands-on fabrication and heavy-industry time to go with them. You will need practical welding and fabrication skill, a good grasp of quality requirements and the ability to work safely and efficiently around heavy plant and industrial projects.
Boilermakers with a South African trade certificate should expect a skills assessment for Australia, often through Trades Recognition Australia.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate steel and carry out boilermaking work with the right tools and equipment, cutting, bending, shaping and preparing sections and plate
- Weld and fabricate to the job specifications
- Work in step with the leading hand and fabrication crew in the workshop and on site
- Check finished work against customer specs and quality requirements, keeping quality assurance steady on every task
- Follow safe work practice and set workplace procedures
- Work well on your own or as part of a crew
- Show apprentices practical trade techniques and methods
- Do line boring when needed, and adapt to the demands of workshop and remote-site work
Requirements & Eligibility
- A recognised Boilermaking trade qualification or an equivalent overseas qualification
- Proven hands-on boilermaking and steel fabrication, with welding and metal fabrication skills you can demonstrate
- A background in manufacturing, mining or heavy industry
- Previous line boring experience is highly regarded
- Can back up your trade qualifications and relevant work experience with evidence
- Solid understanding of workplace quality and safety requirements
- Available Monday to Saturday with occasional overtime, and willing to take on remote-site assignments when required
- Able to pass a pre-employment medical as well as drug and alcohol screening
- Overseas candidates with relevant qualifications and verifiable industry experience are encouraged to apply
