Maintenance Fitters & Electrical Fitter Mechanic

Automated production lines only earn money while they run, and that is where you come in. A manufacturing operation in Kingaroy, Toowoomba & Darling Downs QLD wants qualified Maintenance Fitters and Electrical Fitter Mechanics who can keep complex plant going.

Expect more than routine servicing. Your proven trade qualification, real experience and technical problem-solving will be used to look after automated equipment, attend breakdowns and make machines more reliable. The maintenance team runs on safety, accuracy and solid workmanship, and the role brings ongoing development with possible long-term career paths. Note that sponsorship here is aimed at qualified people already based in Australia, and that South African trades are usually assessed again for Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Find and fix mechanical faults and breakdowns, repairing, replacing and maintaining machine components
  • Do scheduled preventative maintenance and routine services, inspecting production machines to catch problems early
  • Trace electrical faults on automated production gear and bring machines back into service
  • Work on PLC-controlled equipment and automated systems, using VSDs and similar electrical controls as needed
  • Look into repeat failures and help improve reliability
  • Support planned shutdowns and maintenance projects
  • Partner with production crews to cut downtime and keep manufacturing equipment running safely and efficiently
  • Stick to health, electrical, food safety and quality procedures
  • Help the maintenance operation keep improving

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A recognised Mechanical Fitter or Fitter & Turner trade qualification
  • For electrical positions: a Certificate III Electrical or Electrical Fitter Mechanic qualification and minimum 5 years' industrial electrical experience, with VSD experience also needed for electrical applicants
  • Proven maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting, including automated production machinery and preventative maintenance programs
  • Strong hands-on fault-finding and diagnostics
  • PLC experience with Allen Bradley or Siemens preferred
  • Current unrestricted Class C driver's licence
  • High Risk Electrical Work Licence desirable
  • MEX or a similar maintenance management system desirable
  • Firm commitment to safety and quality workmanship
  • Communicates well with production and maintenance teams, and works independently while still pulling weight in a team
  • Available for rotating 12-hour shifts covering days, nights and weekends
  • An Australian-recognised trade qualification is required to be considered for sponsorship
  • Sponsorship available for suitably qualified candidates already based in Australia
