Duty Manager

When you are on shift, the venue is yours to run. A busy licensed hospitality business in Darwin, Northern Territory is hiring an experienced Duty Manager to own venue operations, lead frontline staff and make sure each shift is safe, efficient and professional.
The job blends people leadership, customer service, compliance, financial controls and on-the-spot operational calls. As the senior contact on your rostered shifts, you will support teams across hospitality, gaming and functions and deal with customer needs and problems as they arise.
Overseas applicants face English-language criteria, so South Africans should check early whether an IELTS or PTE result is needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Run the whole venue during your rostered shifts, opening and closing it under set procedures
- Lead food and beverage, gaming and functions staff, giving direction, supervision and support
- Assign daily duties so shifts stay properly covered, and help with rosters, training, development and performance management
- Keep customer service and venue presentation at a high standard
- Make sure liquor, gaming, responsible gambling, food safety and workplace safety rules are followed
- Manage security procedures, keys and restricted areas, and respond properly to security issues and incidents
- Oversee cash handling, tills, floats, safe balances and gaming transactions, and finish each shift with accurate reconciliations and handovers
- Deal with customer complaints and sort out operational or behaviour problems
- Support functions, entertainment and promotions, and keep an eye on stock, equipment, cleanliness and maintenance
- Write accurate shift, incident and operational reports, apply workplace policies, look for ways to improve the venue and keep the workplace safe, professional and positive
Requirements & Eligibility
- A relevant AQF Diploma-level qualification or equivalent plus at least one year of relevant full-time-equivalent experience
- Or, instead, at least three years of relevant full-time-equivalent experience managing in hospitality, hotels or licensed clubs
- Proven experience leading and supervising hospitality staff
- Has worked in a licensed venue before and knows gaming and licensed hospitality operations
- Strong experience with cash handling and reconciliations
- Sound grasp of venue security and operational controls
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent customer service and conflict resolution, with good written communication and reporting
- Holds current NT Responsible Service of Alcohol certification
- Current Responsible Service of Gambling training, or willing to complete the required training
- NT Gaming Machine Manager licence preferred, or willing and eligible to obtain the licence
- Available for evening, weekend and public-holiday shifts
- Able to meet relevant licensing, probity and employment requirements; overseas applicants must meet the applicable qualification, experience, English-language and visa criteria
- Suitably qualified candidates may be offered visa sponsorship, which can include eligible applicants qualifying through an NT DAMA pathway, subject to all required approvals
