Electrician

Streetlights, commercial fit-outs and infrastructure jobs make up the workload for this full-time, permanent Electrician role based in Cromwell, Otago. An established electrical services company wants a tradesperson with real hands-on ability and a solid professional record.
You will be trusted to make your own calls, run your own tasks and keep your work at a high standard on every site. For electricians trained overseas, your registration, qualifications and work history do the talking. Suitable candidates can have their experience assessed for a career in New Zealand, with sponsorship where eligibility rules are met.
South African electricians should know that electrical work in New Zealand needs occupational registration, as this role asks for EWRB registration.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and maintain electrical systems on commercial sites, and complete each installation to the project requirements
- Work on infrastructure and development projects, adapting to whatever each site and project needs
- Install, service and look after streetlighting systems
- Read electrical drawings, plans and technical specs
- Track down, diagnose and fix electrical faults
- Work on your own and handle the tasks you are given with confidence
- Keep workmanship high on every job and follow electrical regulations, site procedures and safety rules
- Use and care for electrical tools and equipment safely
- Keep supervisors, colleagues and project stakeholders in the loop, and help build a dependable, professional team
Requirements & Eligibility
- Current EWRB Electrical Registration
- A current New Zealand Practising Licence, or eligible to obtain one
- 3–5+ years in commercial electrical work
- Strong practical know-how in electrical installation and maintenance, and able to show real hands-on electrical skills
- An electrician trade work history that can be verified
- Confident working alone and making sound technical calls
- Pays close attention to detail and is committed to quality
- Communicates well in writing and in person
- Proactive, dependable and professional, with a strong commitment to health and safety
- Works well with others in a small team
- Legally eligible to work in New Zealand, or suitable for employer-supported sponsorship
