Gardener

Attractive, safe and well-kept grounds are the end result here, and getting there takes more than ticking off tasks. A hands-on gardening role is open in Christchurch, Canterbury, for someone with genuine experience keeping outdoor spaces to a professional standard.
You will need to show real practical knowledge, careful handling of equipment and steady quality in your work. People with clearly demonstrated gardening experience and a reliable attitude are encouraged to apply, and sponsorship is available for eligible applicants who meet the relevant requirements. The role involves police vetting, so applicants from South Africa may also want a police clearance certificate from the South African Police Service on hand.
Key Responsibilities
- Look after lawns, gardens, paths and shared outdoor spaces to the expected presentation standard
- Mow, trim and prune regularly and handle general grounds upkeep
- Plant and fertilise when needed
- Run ride-on mowers, line trimmers and other garden machinery, using safe work practices with every tool and machine
- Walk the outdoor areas and spot routine maintenance needs
- Keep work areas and equipment tidy and properly maintained
- Liaise with internal teams and outside contractors when required
- Get assigned gardening and grounds jobs done reliably
Requirements & Eligibility
- Proven hands-on gardening or grounds maintenance experience
- Demonstrated ability to finish routine gardening tasks independently
- Ride-on lawn mower and line trimmer experience
- Sound knowledge of basic plant, lawn and garden maintenance, and safe use of gardening tools and machinery
- Strong eye for detail and a commitment to work of consistent quality
- Responsible, reliable and professional at work
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Works well alone and as part of a team
- Available for casual weekday shifts, and willing to complete required police vetting and other employment checks
- Must meet applicable New Zealand employment and sponsorship requirements
