HR and Recruitment Team Lead

Finding the right welders, fitters and office staff, checking their papers and getting them on site ready to work is what this HR & Recruitment Team Lead will own at Naval Base, Perth.

An established industrial organisation operating across Western Australia is growing and wants someone to build steady, capable teams through structured hiring, clear workforce processes and sound people management. You will lead a small HR and Recruitment function, from mapping workforce needs and assessing candidates to supporting verification and coordinating onboarding, so hiring becomes more transparent and dependable. The work spans workshop, metropolitan and project sites, and covers local as well as international recruitment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach the HR and Recruitment team so it meets workforce goals
  • Design hiring processes that make candidate assessment accurate and outcomes trustworthy, and look for ways to improve recruitment systems, HR processes and efficiency
  • Run recruitment from start to finish for blue-collar and white-collar roles, including checking experience, work history, qualifications and other documents
  • Organise onboarding and mobilisation for workshop, metropolitan and project staff
  • Support hiring and processing of international and employer-sponsored candidates, coordinating sponsorship requirements, compliance paperwork and contact with relevant migration providers
  • Sit with operational leaders to map current and future workforce needs
  • Build talent pipelines for upcoming projects and growth
  • Manage labour hire providers and outside recruitment suppliers
  • Advise on employee relations, performance management, discipline, investigations and grievances
  • Apply Australian employment legislation, Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements and internal policy
  • Track workforce data, HR metrics and recruitment results, and coordinate employee reviews, training and skills matrix needs

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 5 years in a senior HR and recruitment leadership role
  • Proven end-to-end recruitment for high-volume blue-collar workforces
  • Has handled candidate assessment, employment documents and recruitment compliance
  • Knowledge of employer-sponsored visas and international recruitment is highly desirable
  • Strong grasp of Australian employment legislation, Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements
  • A background in construction, mining, fabrication, resources or heavy industry is highly regarded
  • Proven at leading, mentoring and growing a team
  • Excellent communicator who manages stakeholders well
  • Proactive, practical and focused on solutions, and able to juggle competing priorities in a fast-moving operation
  • Well organised with strong administrative skills
  • Has worked in workforce planning, employee relations and performance management, with advanced Microsoft Office skills and hands-on use of HRIS and recruitment systems
  • Eligible for employer sponsorship where required
