Machinist

Trade · Malaga, Perth WA, Australia · Full-Time · $45 - $55/hr

Read the drawing, pick the tooling, set up the CNC and check the finished part against spec: that is the core of this First Class Machinist role in Malaga, Perth. A specialist engineering and manufacturing business in Western Australia wants someone with proven technical skills, practical workshop experience and a strong feel for precision manufacturing.

You should be confident working from engineering drawings, setting and running CNC equipment and handling manual machining, producing parts to demanding standards. Experience supporting mining, energy, marine or defence-related manufacturing is highly relevant. If your trade experience is genuine and verifiable, you are encouraged to apply.

Trades are usually assessed again in Australia, so keep your South African trade certificate on hand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, program and run CNC machining centres and CNC lathes to suit each job, on Okuma or equivalent machines, using One-Touch programming where needed
  • Work out what each job needs from the drawings and specifications, then choose the tooling, materials and machining method
  • Run manual lathes and conventional machining equipment
  • Make precision metal parts to the required specifications and check finished parts for accuracy and quality
  • Find and fix machining or equipment problems
  • Do routine machine maintenance and housekeeping
  • Keep the workshop safe and organised
  • Stick to the established quality and production procedures
  • Work at a pace that meets production schedules and project needs

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Recognised trade qualification in Metal Machining or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of post-trade machining experience
  • You have strong hands-on CNC machining experience, including CNC lathes and machining centres
  • Okuma experience is highly desirable
  • One-Touch programming experience is advantageous
  • You read and interpret technical drawings with confidence and pay close attention to precision and quality
  • You can show genuine, verifiable employment and trade experience
  • Forklift LF Class licence preferred; Australian Driver’s Licence also preferred
  • You are able to complete pre-employment medical requirements and drug and alcohol screening
  • Full Australian work rights or eligibility for employer sponsorship
