Telecommunications Field Engineer

Trade · Narangba, Brisbane QLD, Australia · Full-Time · $80,000/yr

A tower in the city one week, a remote site the next. An established contractor that builds telecommunications infrastructure for the country's major providers is hiring an experienced Telecommunications Field Engineer, based out of Narangba in Brisbane, for critical network projects across Australia.

The work is hands-on: integration, commissioning and infrastructure on big network deployments, side by side with seasoned specialists on projects of national significance. Qualified international candidates can be sponsored by the employer and build a long-term career in the sector.

Applicants from South Africa should keep proof of their rigging and safety certificates ready.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrate, test and commission RF and transmission systems on telecommunications infrastructure, taking each site through to network acceptance and sorting out technical faults on the way
  • Fit, configure and commission network hardware such as microwave links, antennas, feeders, radio units, outdoor cabinets and transmission systems
  • Take part in upgrading towers, installing equipment, modifying structures and expanding infrastructure
  • Write up commissioning paperwork, test results and acceptance records for the carrier to the standard the industry requires
  • Work within permits, risk controls, quality assurance checks and safety procedures, and coordinate with field crews, engineers and project managers so projects get delivered
  • Go wherever the project is: city, regional or remote sites around Australia

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Track record as a Telecommunications Field Engineer, with deep RF and transmission integration know-how, hands-on commissioning of telecommunications gear and experience filling in carrier acceptance paperwork
  • Rigging qualification at Intermediate or Advanced level, currently valid
  • Current tickets for Working at Heights, Elevated Work Platform (EWP) and First Aid
  • Has worked on telecoms towers, structural steel installs or infrastructure upgrade projects
  • Ready to travel a lot, all over Australia, regional and remote locations included
  • Current driver's licence needed; it is advantageous to hold extra heavy vehicle licences or other relevant industry tickets
  • Knows the safety and quality standards of the Australian telecommunications industry, and troubleshoots, communicates and works in a team at a high level
  • Overseas applicants who are suitably qualified and satisfy Australian migration requirements can receive employer sponsorship
